Project Brief
This urban dwelling project recognizes and gains inspiration from the historic industrial identity and diverse community of the Castleberry Hill Historic District in Atlanta. The project aims to boost the economy of the existing local district residents, while aiming to lower median rent costs, and to serve a circular economy through urban farming practices. The designed program integrates both landscape and civic spaces to act holistically in service to the people, providing them with places for living, recreation, leisure, entertainment, and involvement.
The architecture of the dwelling units co-exist with retail and commercial areas which generate an active boost in the community’s circular business model. Moreover, the industrial fabric of the sloped site’s surroundings is the foundation to the design intentions: delivering a “missing-middle” environment in which commercial spaces, as well as other community based activities, can be constrained at the first level, while dwelling units sit at the upper floors.
